New Early Intervention Program

The Spencer Project

The Spencer Project is an early intervention program designed to help 3-5 year old children, diagnosed with autism, learn age appropriate:

  • fine/gross motor skills
  • cognitive development
  • social skills

This program fosters patience and provide positive reinforcement.  Each child's program will emphasize the child's strengths rather that weaknesses to build new skills.  Staff will begin to teaching skills to help with peer relationship building and the program will help autistic children to be more prepared when they enter into their local elementary school programs.

LAP Respite Center continues to provide excellent

  • In-Home Respite Care
  • Weekend Respite House Services
  • Specialized After School Programming

In-Home Respite Care

LAP Care Providers travel to family homes for a scheduled number of hours per week to assist families with care for their children.  Care Providers can assist parents with a variety of duties (i.e. taking a child to a medical appointment or simply provide care services whil a parent runs errands or works around the home).  Family members work with administrative staff to identify appropriate pairing of our care providers with your loved one.  Family members contact the LAP office to schedule respite care.

Weekend Respite House Services

We maintain a state licensed respite house program and routinely provide weekend services to our families.  Care can be provided for an entire weekend or for a single day depending on a family's need.

Care at the Respite House is provided around the clock and care crocedures are tailored to meet the individual needs of your child.

While at the respite house, children engage in a variety of activities including outdoor exploration, sensory stimulation and fine motor development.  Children are also allowed the time to rest and unwind, because they often need recovery time as much as you do.

LAP After School Program

We provide a State Licensed Day Care Program for children in special education.  The program takes place at The Beekman Center located at 2901 Wabash Road in Lansing, Michigan.  The Program Director is located on site and provides a daily schedule for care providers to follow.  The program includes snacks, music, crafts, outdoor play, reading and games.  Activities include a mix of practicing educational learning and socialization skills.  Children who attend the program are part of a three-to-one student-to-provider ratio.
